The Britalian Diet: How I Lost 88 Pounds and Rediscovered Joy in Food

Have you ever wished for a way to shed pounds without giving up the pleasure of eating? To look forward to every meal while transforming your health? That was me, not so long ago. Four years ago, I stood in front of the mirror, feeling overwhelmed by my weight and the daunting prospect of yet another restrictive diet. But then, something remarkable happened—something that changed my life.

It all began with a bucket-list trip to Italy, a country that lives through food, yet is still one of the healthiest, least obese nations in the world. I found myself captivated by a culture that celebrates every bite, with no fearmongering or guilt around food. Meals were simple yet absolutely beautiful, filled with fresh, seasonal ingredients, savoured slowly in the company of family and friends. And the people? They exuded a zest for life that I’d almost forgotten in the hustle and bustle of recent years, which have included moving back to the UK from overseas and raising two small children.

Back home in the Peak District, I couldn’t shake the inspiration Italy had stirred within me. What if I could bring a slice of their eating and moving ethos into my everyday life? What if I could combine the best of Italian habits with the realities of British living? That question led me to create what I now call The Britalian Diet.

The results were extraordinary. In just eight months, I lost 88 pounds—but more importantly, I gained a new perspective on food, health, and happiness. I discovered the power of eating fresh, seasonal, minimally processed foods. I embraced movement, not as punishment, but for the joy of it. And I learned how to slow down and and savour my meals.

The Britalian Diet isn’t about deprivation or impossible rules. It’s about finding balance and pleasure in every aspect of life. It’s designed for people like me, who live in the UK and want practical, achievable ways to make a change. Whether it’s mastering the art of a quick, nutritious pasta dish, finding time for mindful movement, or simply learning to enjoy a glass of wine without guilt, this approach is all about small, sustainable shifts that add up to big results.

I’m thrilled to announce that The Britalian Diet is now available as an e-book on this site (link here), and will officially launch on Amazon on December 27th. My hope is that it will inspire others to reclaim their health and happiness while enjoying the journey.

So, why wait for January resolutions when you can start now? Join me on this exciting adventure to embrace the best of British and Italian living. Let’s make 2025 the year we rediscover the joy of food and the beauty of balance.
